Kane's Angels: Attack of the Werewolf |

PROLOGUE: The woman made her way slowly through the darkened alley. Her heels on her stilletos click against the slick, wet pavement. Echoing off the tall brick walls of the buildings surrounding her. She glanced up at their masses, wraping her faux fur shawl around her bare shoulders, pulling it tighter around her as she shivered against the chill in the dark air. The clouds above in the sky drifted menancingly across the full moon as a strange howl filled the heavy air. She stopped in her tracks, her highly decorated eyes glancing nervously behind her. The hair on the back of her neck stood up at the evil sound that filled the thick air once more. She started off again, quickening her step desperate to reach safety. The hulking shape moved silently through the alley towards her. It's shape hidden from sight in the darkened shadows. It's claws clicking slightly against the ground. It attacked with out further warning. It's jaws clamped down on the woman's throat, cutting of the scream that tried to make it's way out. It's sharp teeth tore through the soft flesh of her neck, ripping her head away from the body. It's claws slashed through the flesh of her bare stomach, spilling her intestines over the now bloody ground. It dug it's snout into her chest, crunching through bones and flesh til it clasp her heart between it's strong jaws. Raising it's head, it let out a loud triumphant howl as the blood from his latest victim dripped from it's teeth. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Kane opened his eyes carefully, his head aching as if he had drank too much the night before. With a shaky hand, he reached up and trailed his fingers through his matted, sweaty dark locks. AS his green eyes adjusted to the bright light of the room, his mouth dropped open with shock. His bare body was covered in blood. His feet black with the mud and dirt of some unkown location. Blood and bits of cloth hung from his finger tips. "What have I done?" ******************************************************************************** PART 1: "PROSTITUTE VICIOUSLY MURDERED." Kane stared at the front page headline. His eyes growing wide with amazement as he continued to read the main story. "Late night attack in alley leaves no clues for police. Last night between the hours of 1 and 4 am, a local prostitute, name withheld pending next of ken contact, was viciously attacked as she walked home from a recent job. The alleyway was covered in blood, her lifeless body appeared as if it had been run through a mangler. Local authorities contacted Animal Control thinking it might have been some type of animal attack. Supervisor over the Center advised that even though the marks appeared animal like, it was very rare that a animal could do this much damage to one person. This is the first murder of this kind in the area. Authorities are requesting anyone with info to contact their local police departments." Kane folded the paper carefully with shaking hands. He raised them to his head, resting his forehead against them as his elbows came to rest on the table. He struggled to hold back the fear that wanted to rise up inside of him. He wasn't like this. this wasn't normal. he was a tough man and shouldn't let one blacked out night take control of his life. It was just coincidence, he tried to tell himself, that he went sleepwalking in a drunken stupor and the woman being murdered. That's it nothing else. He sighed heavily. His breath coming slightly shaky as he desperately tried to return to normal. Running a hand through his hair, his eyes laid upon the folded newspaper. There in smaller print at the bottom of the page was another headline that sent his heart racing. "THREE HIKERS FEARED DEAD AS THEY FAIL TO RETURN FROM CAMPING TRIP. Local Rangers found the remains of a demolished camp, complete with a tent shredded almost beyond recognition and blood scattered through out the small clearing in the woods." With a violent motion of his arm, Kane swept it across the table, scattering papers and breakfast dishes shattering onto the hard wood floors of the breakfast nook. In rage he stood up suddenly, knocking his chair over backward. With a low growl in the back of his throat, he stormed out of the bright sunny room. He need some help. Help from the only people that _could_ help him. His Angels. ******************************************************************************** PART 2: The girls arrived together at once. Their voices rising through the open foyer of their building as they excitedly talked about their adventures the previous night. They bypassed the stairs for the more convenient ride on the elevator. As they patiently waited for the box to make it's slow journey down to the first floor, Sarah began to fidget, she hated waiting and was starting to get bored. Michelle nervously looked over at the large grandfather clock quietly clicking away near by. "Ladies we must hurry or we are going to be late." Heather rolled her eyes at the other Angel's impatience. "He'll still be there if we are a few seconds late." She jokingly poked an elbow at the girl as the elevator doors slide silently open. Mileni shook her head smiling. Michelle was always anxious about talking to the man and if they were even a second late she would start to worry. "Relax girl he'll always be there!" She patted her on the shoulder and stepped into the open elevator. But despite her own words, Mileni had an odd feeling that something was going to be different about today. Noticing the worried look on her face, Sarah became worried herself. "Mileni what's wrong?" The brief question got the attention of the other 2 girls who turned towards Mileni. becoming nervous, she shifted from foot to foot and shook her head. "Nothing just rough night." "Oh somet hing exciting?" Michelle piped up. "I know you had a hot sexy rendezvous didn't you?" Sarah added. "Yeah with a tall dark and handsome man." Heather joined in the fun. "Oh please ladies, you know where our man was." Forgetting her worry, Mileni quickly recovered. "he was right there in bed with me." With that last comment, she strode into the open living space of the large flat of their "office", as Sarah stuck her tongue out at her retreating back, causing Heather and Michelle to bust into fits of laughter. Mileni whirled around. "What? Are you laughing at me?" The 3 other Angels gave her an innocent look and shook their heads. "We would _never_ laugh at an Angel." Heather added as she took a seat on the big leather couch. Michelle once again looked at the clock, this time resting on the mantel. It was two minutes past time. "he's late." She sat down on the edge of the couch, staring at the laptop in front of her on the glass coffee table. "Humph." "It's only two minutes." Sarah flopped on the couch, nearly knocking Heather off the edge, as she grabbed a piece of paper to keep her hands occupied. Mileni grabbed the laptop and quickly logged in hoping that maybe she could catch him just as he logged in. The screen came up. The media player box for the web cam opened up. The screen showed their usual view. The bay window of Kane's house. His chair stood empty. "See, he's not there." Michelle sat back and folded her arms across her chest, frowning. "he's never late." She whispered almost to her self. "He'll be here." The youngest of the four tried to reassure her as her own worry started to surface. Sarah finished her paper and threw the circle she had made into the air. The group remained silent as they watched it's slow easy glide towards the door. "He's never late." Mileni spoke up finally breaking the awkward and rare silence of the Angel's. ******************************************************************************** PART 3: The computer beeped and all four heads zoomed into it's screen. "What's that?" Curious Heather moved closer as Mileni, the seeming computer expert of the Angels, took a seat next to Michelle for a closer look. "It looks like a prerecorded message." She tried typing to go back to the original screen but it seemed that it had taken over the computer and wouldn't respond to any of her commands. The four girls squeezed closer on the couch, straining to see the tiny screen. "turn it up I can't hear." Sarah leaned forward as a dark form appeared on the screen. "there's no voice yet." Michelle shook her head but still turned the volume up on the speakers before her. The form sat seemed to sit down and an arm reached for something behind the camera. A soft yellow glow came from in front of the subject bathing him in a dim light. The four gasped in unison as the spotted a shirtless Kane, dirty with a darker substance smeared on his face. His eyes looked wild and nervous. They kept darting back and forth behind scenes. "Angels, I think I may need your help..." he paused as if to listen to something off camera. "Something is happening...to...me." His image seemed to jerk around with the bad connection of the web cam. The girls looked at each other. "What's wrong Teddy Bear?" "Michelle! It's a tape, he can't hear you." Sarah nudged the oldest Angel next to her teasingly. Kane seemed to come back to them as if he _had_ heard her though. "i don't know what it is..." He paused to run his fingers through his sweat and grime soaked hair. "I seem to be loosing time." He leaned in closer, as if there was someone else in the room and he didn't want them to hear what he was saying. "At night...I think I do things...Bad things...illegal things." His eyes darted away from the camera again at a loud crash out of view. "And I think someone is after me." Suddenly the camera was knocked askew, it crashed to the floor showing two sets of feet, one barefooted and obviously Kane's. The other's were booted in muddy black boots. Several shouts rang out. Two voices. One the Angels knew was Kane's, the other they didn't recognize. Michelle gasped as she watched the fight ensue. Kane shouted at the subject to leave, the other person yelled back "I'm here to..." His words were stopped by what could only be figured as a punch to the mouth. Glass shattered in the background and suddenly the screen went black as the tape was either stopped or the camera was broken. Speechless, the ladies looked from one to the other. "That's our Kane." Michelle pointed at the screen in disbelief. "Who would want Kane?" Heather glanced over at Mileni and Sarah. Mileni shook her head. "Kane doesn't have enemies." Having kept quiet, Sarah piped up. "What did he mean _illegal_? Why would he do something illegal?" "ladies we are the ones who are supposed to figure that out." Mileni the seemingly calm one stood up and started passing. "That's why Kane sent us that video." "That's it!" Michelle stood up excitedly. "He wanted _us_ to find _him_" She turned around facing the others. "But how?" Heather leaned back against the cushions. "All we have is the video." "What's the first rule in investigations?" Sarah stood up to join the pacing of Mileni. "Uh clues?" Heather answered quickly. "Yes" Sarah snapped her fingers in triumph. "And where are the clues?" "At the crime scene." Mileni answered smiling but then her smile faded. "We don't know where the crime scene is." "I do!" Michelle jumped, her hand waving in the air. "It's at Kane's house." Realizing what she just said, she sat down slowly. "Oh, we don't know where Kane's house is." he had recently moved and no one, not even his Angels knew where he was now. "Well that's easy to find." Heather beamed at her idea. "Internet!" The four Angels spoke in unison. ******************************************************************************** PART 4: "Now" Mileni moved her chair closer to the round table. "Let's see what we can find." She started to pound on the keyboard, bringing up Internet Explorer. "maybe we shouldn't use this one with that awful worm and all traveling around." Sarah nudged her chair closer for a better view. "Naw it'll be fine." heather added matter of factly. "Where do we go to?" Mileni paused typing at the opening page, her website with a nice shot of a bare chested Kane from "Darkwolf". A long sigh imminated from Michelle as she caught sight of her new favorite picture. The other's laughed at her in a friendly, teasing manner. "Hmm..." SArah reached across and pulled the pink laptop towards her. "Well there's the obvious." She quickly typed and addy into the address field and waited a few seconds for the page to come up. "The white pages...of course." Michelle laughed as the page down loaded. Sarah's fingers flashed across the keys as the girls each pointed out where to go for searches. Within a few minutes they were where they wanted to be and clicked the search button. The computer seemed to take for ever. Mileni started to humm a song she had stuck in her head. Soon Heather joined in. As the computer slowly ticked away, searching the wide exoanse of the cyber world for the name they had typed in, the remaining girls joined in. Soon the previously quite room was filled with the harmonious singing and giggling of the Angels. The computer beeped and a scroll of names and addresses flashed across the screen, bringing the chior session to an end. "Wow I didn't know there were that many Hodder's in the states." Heather stared at the screen in disbelief. "Canada would have given you the exact match." Michelle chiped in trying to start a banter between the two countries. Before Mileni could add her two cents for her country, Sarah clicked on one that had a California zip code. The screen blinked and posted up the full name and address of a Kane Hodder living in a small town just to the north of the LA area. "Think that's it?" Mileni turned the computer towards her for a better look. "I thought he lived in LA." "Maybe he decided to move after his...ah...little personal problem he had last year." Heather cleared her throat not wanting to state exactly what they all knew she was talking about. "That would make sense. A bad, emotional experience like that and I'd want to move as well." Michelle added. "He's got a new life so he wanted to start over." The other's agreed with Mileni. "It's a clean slate." Sarah added. She copied the city name and quickly went to the favorites folder and brought up the mapsquest. Pasting it into the browser, the group waited for the computer to catch up. "It doesn't look very far away." Mileni took back control of the computer and scrolled down to the miles and directions. "nope maybe an hour at most and it's in the mountains!" "Camping!" SArah jumped up from her chair and did a little dance before she sat back down. "Camping has creatures I don't like." Mileni stuck her tongue out in disgust. "How about we get a motel room instead." The other's agreed as Sarah shrugged her shoulders in defeat. "Hotel it is. Let's hit the road." ******************************************************************************** PART 5: "Road trip!" Heather raised her arms over her head as the sleek 1969 cobalt blue Camaro convertible roared out of the parking garage. Mileni, being from California and knowing the area better than anyone, was driving. Heather being the youngest and whining about that fact and always having to sit in the back, rode shot gun with Michelle and Sarah relaxing in the sun in the back. Being mid Spring, the weather was fantastic, not too hot, not too cold. Course for Michelle it _was_ too hot being her used to very cold Canadian weather and Sarah thinking it too _cold_ for she was used to Texas being already well into the hot summertime temps by this time of the year. "Hey ladies what do y'all think of planning a surprise party for Kane next year?" Bored already, Sarah broke the short silence. "Oh yeah that would be fun! A party, with Kane!" Michelle squealed with delight. "Lots of drinking and playing!" Sarah added as she gave Michelle a high five. "Hey no fair I'm still underage!" Heather turned around in her seat frowning at the older Angels in the back. Mileni just laughed and pressed the gas peddle down, shooting the First-Gen up to a fast clip on the two lane highway. The miles zipped by as the conversations ran aplenty, never seeming to cease until they turned off at their exit. "Next stop, Calabasas!" Mileni shouted in glee. "Umm...ladies...?" Heather started to fidget in her seat. "I gotta go to the bathroom." "Again?" Sarah teased her. "But we just left!" "We just stopped." Michelle wagged a finger at her with a frown on her face. "didn't I tell you to go before we left?" Heather gave her her best childlike innocent pout. "But I gotta go again." "We should be there in about 20 minutes, can you wait?" Mileni glanced in the rearview mirror, her cheerful eyes suddenly turning confused. Heather flopped back in her seat and readjusted her seat belt. "Yeah I guess so." Sarah caught Mileni's change in glances and looked behind them. A black Expedition was behind them about 200 yards back. Michelle noticing the sudden quietness, looked where the other two were watching. "You think it's following us?" "Not sure but it was behind us most of the way on the main highway and took the same exit." Mileni sped up to put some distance between them. "Well this town _is_ a tourist town." Heather forgetting about her overfilled bladder joined in the watching of the SUV. "But then again, it's an off season." "Just act normal." Michelle tried to calm her fellow friends. "There's no reason for us to be followed." "Yeah it's not like we've done anything." Heather added sarcastically. "Well not yet anyways." Mileni added slightly whispered and under her breath. "Keep driving normal." Sarah turned back around but kept and eye on the rear view mirror. "We will keep driving through town if we have too." Michelle leaned over Mileni's shoulder. "We got a full tank, wonder how his is?" The girls remained quiet for several long minutes, the Black SUV stayed the same distance away. It seemed to match their speed. "Slow down." Mileni looked over at Heather like she was crazy. "Do WHAT?" Sarah and Michelle both looked at the young one with disbelief. "Maybe if we slow down too much he'll give up and go around and we can get a good look at him." "And the license plate number" Michelle turned around to watch the hopeful approach of the tailing vehicle. Mileni sighed deeply and slowly let off on the gas. The blue Camaro slowed down gradually but the SUV slowed with it. At first it almost caught up before realizing the car was slowing. "It's not working, he's figured it out." Michelle exhaled with frustration. "Try speeding up again and then slamming on the brakes." Heather suggested. "What? That'll just bring him _into_ us not around us!" Mileni exclaimed. "Not if he reacts well." Sarah added, with Michelle nodding in agreement. "OK if you say so." Mileni pressed on the gas bringing the car up to a quick 70 mph. The SUV remained right with them. After a few minutes, Mileni reacted. "Hang on" She slammed on the brakes, hard enough to slow the vehicle dramatically but not so to wreck them out. They watched as the Expedition approached quickly, too quickly. At the last second, the driver yanked the wheel to the right and flew around the car. As it whooshed past them, the Angels looked hard into the darkened interior. "Damn, window tinting." Heather flopped back into her seat. "i got the plate number, we can check DMV records." Sarah quickly scribbled some numbers and letters on a spare piece of paper. "I think I saw a shape inside." Michelle continued to watch the faster moving vehicle speeding away from them ahead. "Look to be a _big_ person." She smiled at the thought. "Well who ever it is, thankfully they are off of us." Mileni once again resumed her normal driving speed. The ladies soon arrived at their destination. As Mileni turned off the main highway onto the main Calabasas road that ran along side the highway, she spoke up. "Keep your eyes out for a place to stay." "There's a Country Inn up ahead." Heather pointed towards the tall sign a few blocks in front of them. Mileni slowed down and made the turn into the motel. She parked and the Angels climbed out, each stretching their muscles despite the drive only being 30 minutes long. Ten minutes later, the girls pulled their luggage from the trunk of the muscle car and made their way to their room. "Home sweet home." Sarah mumbled as she dropped her bag in the entryway, glancing around the suite. "This is nice!" Heather acted like a much younger person and moved from room to room opening every door and cabinet. "Look we even have a full kitchen." Out of habit, Mileni opened the refrigerator door wondering if there was any food or stuff inside. "What...no minibar?" Disappointed, Michelle sat down on the couch. "So where's the fourth bed?" "Your sitting on it." Sarah took a peek inside the other rooms. The place wasnt bad but for the price, over $100 a night, it wasn't really worth it. It had two actual bedrooms one of which had 2 double beds. The other had a queen sized one and then their was the hide-a-bed in the couch. "Two full baths, no bath room hogs needed." Mileni joking patted Heather on the back. Heather returned with a dirty look. After settling in, the four girls sat down at the table. "So what's the plan?" Mileni looked between them. "I say we go to kane's right now." Michelle's worry was obvious on her face. "Good thinking, while the crime scene is fresh." Sarah leaned back in her chair lifting the front legs off the floor. "Anyone have any idea when the tape was made?" heather kept an eye on Sarah and her precariously rocking chair. Mileni pulled out her laptop once more. "From the video it looks to be night time. he may have made this knowing something was going to happen and that we would find it soon." "But what would make him think something was up?" Heather looked toward the older girls to answer her question. Sarah and Michelle both shrugged. "Maybe he heard something or got a threatening letter." Michelle tossed her hair back away from her face. "It's happened before." "Well sitting here's not going to give us any answers." Mileni closed the laptop instead and stood up. "I say we head out." "What and no sight seeing first?" Michelle's comment resulted in an elbow in the side from Sarah. PART 6: The house was a modest stucco style 2 story house. From outside everything appeared normal. "So where do we start?" heather glanced up at the massive eaves of the nice looking house. "Well if he was suddenly taken, I don't think the suspect would pause to allow him to lock up." Sarah climbed
out of the car and headed up the steep driveway. "The doors may still be unlocked." "Unless the guy knocked Kane out and then went back." Michelle followed Sarah with Heather close behind as
Mileni secured the car. "I think I saw a security car parked down the way." Mileni joined the group at the garage door. "Maybe they
know something." "Good thinking." Sarah yanked on the garage door, hoping that there wasn't an alarm. "You wanna split up or
stay together?" "Split up." "Stay together" Heather and Michelle covered each other's words. "I think we should stick together, especially after that car following us." Mileni ran and hand through her
wind blown hair. "Who ever it was may be related to Kane's attacker." The other 3 nodded in agreement. "Then we stick together." Michelle added. The 4 girls nodded together and turned towards the house. Heather ran up first, anxious to get inside. She reached for the door knob but hesitated. Not quite sure what
she was going to do or see. What her reaction would be. The other's stopped behind her, waiting for the younger one to go first. She always seemed to complain about
having to go last and no one was about to argue with her in going in first for no one else wanted too. She took a deep breath, grasped the gold handle in her hands and turned it. It stopped short. Locked. She grunted with frustration and turned towards the others. "Wanna try the back door?" Sarah and Mileni nodded and turned towards the side of the house with Heather close behind. Michelle stayed
back a short time, glancing in through the window, high up in the door. From where she could see, everything still looked
in order. "Uh oh." Sarah stopped short almost causing Heather to collide with her. "Sarah! brake lights please!" heather teased the older one before she too spotted what had caught SArah's
attention. In the back sliding glass door, right above where the handle and lock was, was a small circular hole. Just
the size for a hand to slip through and unlock it. SArah and Heather gave each other a glance as Michelle and Mileni arrived. "Who goes first." Heather spoke first, not really wanting to go in this time. "Youngest goes first." Mileni whispered suddenly afraid and not wanting to go in. "I'm not going in first. Uh huh not this time." heather shook her head and backed up a step. "Oh good grief what do you think your gonna find? Kane's not going to be in there so no bodies or anything."
michelle's worry turned to anger and she shoved past the group and opened the sliding glass door. A blast of cool air struck her, brushing her hair off her face and sending goose bumps up her arms. She glanced
nervously at the women behind her and stepped in, disappearing into the darkness. Heather shrugged her shoulders and followed. The worst part had already been taken over. SArah glanced at Mileni. "what do you want to do?" "Run and hide." Mileni whispered, never taking her eyes off the gaping hole in front of her. Sarah took Mileni by the hand and stepped inside. She looked around and couldn't find the other 2 ladies around. "Michelle? Where are y'all?" "In here." Michelle's voice called out quietly from a back bedroom. The room appeared to be an office. And it looked ransacked. Lamps were knocked off tables and shattered. papers were scattered all over and the computer was smashed. Michelle glanced around the destroyed room. "There's nothing here. Nothing at all." "The rest of the house seems ok." Heather came in from her quick exploration of the house. The girls started to mosey around the room picking at things here and there. Righting overturned furniture.
Picking up broken lamps and such. A knock on the door startled the occupied girls. Heather , the first to react, ran to the front door and threw it open. "What!" The security guard stood in front startled by her sudden appearance. "Uh can I help you ladies." "Funny and we were going to ask the same of you." Michelle stood beside the smaller still shocked Angel. Feeling suddenly overwhelmed by the presence of the four women, the young hot looking security guard started
to stutter. "I...I...uh....saw the...c-c-car parked out front...and thought something was up." "Where were you yesterday? Huh?" Sarah and Mileni grabbed the irritated Michelle and pulled her back away
from the young officer. "I'm sorry you'll have to forgive my friend here, she's..uh...a little over worked lately." Sarah gave Michelle
a hard look that told her to keep quiet. "is everything ok here?" He tilted back his milk man's hat and placed a hand on his duty belt. "Yes." Mileni spoke up quickly before anyone else could. The last thing they needed was the authorities getting
involved, they would only mess things up and get in the way. "Actually." Sarah furrowed her brow thinking, her investigators cap was on. "Did you see any strange vehicles
around the last few days. Some that looked out of place or were new to the area.?" "yeah specifically ones hanging around the Hodder house?" Heather recovered piped up. "now that you mention it there was a black truck that was prowling around a few days ago. SOme neighbors called
in about it parked and running across the street for hours on end." "What happened?" Heather reached forward and placed a worried hand on the officer's fore arm. he took a step back, taken off guard by the almost flirtatious move. "By the time we got here it was gone,
but we did get it on camera though." "Cameras?" Mileni looked at him curiously hoping that it would leads somewhere. "Yeah we got security camera situated through out the neighborhood. and at the entrance." Smiling SArah became excited. "Could we get a copy of those tapes?" She sidled up to him, turning on the charm. He smiled back and nodded. "Sure thing I'll go get 'em now." He tipped his hat at them and turned around in
a smooth military about face. "Damn he's hot." Sarah stared at his retreating back. Michelle poked her in the same way she was always poking everyone else. "Now now, turn your hormones off for
guys in uniform and lets get back to the problem at hand." Sarah hurumphed at Michelle and turned back into the house. "Always taking the fun out of everything." She
stated sarcastically but yet in a teasing manner, smiling up at her older friend. Heather came out of nowhere and handed SArah the phone. Sarah took it and stared at it like she had never
seen one before. "What's this?" "It's a phone. You use it to make calls." Sarah frowned at Heather's sarcastic remark. "Like to use your authority
and call the DMV?" "Oh yeah!" Sarah turned the phone on and started dialing. When someone finally answered, she turned and went into another room pacing back and forth during her conversation
with a bodiless voice. Several minutes later she turned the phone off smiling in triumph. "Y'all aren't gonna believe this." The 3 stared at her waiting patiently. "But that truck that was following
us belongs to none other than Ken Kirzinger out of LA." Their jaws dropped open. A knock at the door brought them back quickly. "No way." Heather reached for the door once more. "Why would he be following us? Oh Hi!" The security guard was back. He kindly tipped his hat again. "Sorry to intrude again Ma'am but I got those
tapes for you." he handed them over smiled and tipped his hat once more and left. "he called me ma'am!" Heather gushed as she closed the door, clutching the VHS tapes to her chest. "movie time!" Michelle grabbed the tapes from Heather and took off for the living room. An hour later the girls were slumped on the couch. Their enthusiasm from before was long gone with the boredom
of watching the tapes. "What did he do give us all the tapes for the past month?" Sarah folded her arms across her chest and slumped
further into the couch. Mileni bored grabbed a newspaper sitting on a side table. Classified ads. Heather grabbed the remote away from Michelle. "Hey!" "We gotta fast forward this." Heather clicked the button and watched the cars zipping by. "WAit go back!" SArah sat up as she caught sight of something. Heather stopped the tape and rewound it to the spot SArah ws talking about. "There." THey watched as the same black SUV pulled up and parked across the road, turning it's headlights off. Through
the chill of the air, they could see that it was still running. "That's it." Michelle exclaimed. "We found it!" Another view showed a clear spot of the backend showing the license plate as the same one. "So Ken kidnapped Kane?" Heather was confused. "Why would he do that?" "So he would be sure to get the part of Jason." Michelle frowned, glaring at the stilled screen in front of
her. "hey girls look at this." Mileni who'd been engrossed in the newspaper read allowed. "Lab assistant needed.
Must have experience in chemicals and finding solutions and antidotes for virus. The more the better. Contact Ken at 555-2367." She folded the paper and showed it to the girls. The ad was circled in red ink. "A clue?" Heather turned towards Sarah. "Could be but Ken is a popular name." "But the number is in LA." MIleni laid the paper in her lap. "Hey girls look at this!" Michelle started the video playing again. As the angels watched, the driver got out of the vehicle and approached the front of the house. The date and
time stated last night. As the minutes clicked by, the driver came back into view climbed back into the truck and backed into
the driveway out of camera view. Several minutes later it pulled off, squealing it's tires. The time was the same time of the recorded web cam from Kane. One by one the Angels looked at each other. "ken did take Kane." Michelle was suddenly excited. Finally some links. "You know something." Mileni picked up the phone and newspaper. "If this _is_ Ken's ad, I could apply and
get in, undercover." They nodded in agreement. Five minutes later the 4 Angels were locking up Kane's house and walking to the car. They had clues and a
plan. Mileni would start the next day. PART 7: "Are you still with me, Heather?" Mileni asked, apparently to herself, being the only passenger in the car. "You bet!" was the distorted voice coming from the audio device imperceptibly placed inside her right ear. "How much further?" "According to Mapquest, three more miles ahead and a right turn." At the realization of how close she was, the girl nervously moved in her seat, taking a deep breath. "Are you sure no one will notice the microphone?" Mileni touched the silver pin adorned with shiny topazes on her navy blue suit. "I doubt it. They'll think I'm just dressing formal." It was quite a drive in a practically inhabited part of the city. Except for a couple residential complexes, the view consisted in semi-arid empty space. " This is weird, Heather" she commented while making a broad curve. "Nobody puts a lab in the middle of nowhere. These people must be up to something." Soon enough she approached at an old building - the only one in the small road which address she had followed. "There it is!" "Good luck Mileni. If you need help, call me up and I'll be there in ten minutes." ******************** Mileni parked among the three only cars in front of the building. She glanced at the rear mirror one last time, neating her hair, then stepped outside with her classy high heels. Trying to hide her anxiety and look as natural as possible, she headed for the front entrance. The door was closed. She rang the bell insistently and waited for five long minutes until a woman appeared. The receptionist could have been considered a beautiful woman - only if she wore the right clothes and changed the thick, brown frame of her glasses. She was in her late twenties and looked quite nerdy. "Hi! How can I help you?" she greeted with a half, obviously forced smile, partially hiding herself behind the door. "Hi! My name is Anna Johnson, I have an interview with Ken at nine o'clock." The woman looked suddenly relaxed. "Oh, for the lab assistant position, right? Please come with me." She widely opened the door allowing passage for Mileni, just to close it back again. The reception room was quite simple - two comfortable chairs along the wall and a desk way too organized, that made the girl wonder if there was actually someone using it. She followed the older woman to an adjacent room and took a seat at the long, empty meeting desk. "Ken will be with you shortly" she said and left. "Right" Mileni thought, looking around. "No dozens of forms to fill, no paperwork, no photocopies of documents required." She made an effort not to shake her leg in anxiety. "I've been to too many job interviews to know this is not normal." In five minutes the door was opened. Mileni rose to greet her interviewer. He had short brown hair and his equally brown eyes were studying her, apparently unaccustomed to the glasses. A goatee was giving more personality to his pleasant, masculine features. He was an uncommonly tall guy, and his built, strong body didn't seem to match at all with the lab white coat. Mileni could hardly believe her luck. *************** "I believe you are Miss Johnson?" "Nice to meet you, Ken." She shook his hand, smiling. "You can call me Anna." "I got him!" she thought exultantly. "Maybe Heather will recognize his voice. Ken definitely doesn't look like a scientist! The Jason costume suits him much better!" She tried not to laugh. After a few silent, uncomfortable minutes, Ken raised his head from the paper in his hands to glance at the woman across the table from him. "Your resume looks very good, Anna." "Oh, thank you!" she said deeply relieved, modestly blushing. "Yes, I've been trying to improve it along the years." "It says here that you have experience in research. Tissue processing, biochemistry, protein reactions Does it involve study with animals at all?" "Certainly" she informed him, growing confident. "In that last company we tested in animals whatever we came up with in the lab. Official clinic research, FDA inspected, SOP's, all that." "I see." Mileni had the feeling that he was trying to hide his enthusiasm. He was studying her carefully. "Do you have practical knowledge of genetics and general biotech?" "As a matter of fact, I do" she lied. "I worked in a major lab in Brazil where we did it all - cloning, protein purification, PCR, Elisa, DNA manipulation" That much was true, but she didn't mention how lost she had been in that sufferable month internship. She barely knew what an enzyme was. "I must say I'm impressed" he finally confessed. "Unfortunately we hired someone yesterday for this position, but I'll be glad to keep your resume for future opportunities." Her confident smile vanished from her face. She absolutely needed to get inside that place and find out why that man kidnapped Kane - she couldn't fail! "Ahn Well, maybe I can help anyways. I mean - the salary won't be a problem. All I want is the experience. I'll gladly volunteer as your assistant." Ken dissimulated a suspicious look, but made an observation. " I'm surprised with your interest, Anna. As far as I know, you know very little about our company." He waved a hand in the air, in a "forget it" gesture, and proceeded before she had a chance to answer. "I appreciate it, but we really won't need any more help." He rose, followed by her, who was trying to think fast. "Thanks for coming." He circled the table, approaching the girl with a stretched arm in what was supposed to be a goodbye handshake. She offered her hand, but instead of shaking it, he reached for her pin. He quickly pulled it from her suit, dropped it on the floor and strongly stepped on it with his big heavy foot. She stared at him in disbelief, jaw dropped open. "Now" he told her with an unfriendly expression in his eyes, his brows furrowed. "Just tell me who in hell you are and why you really came here." She stepped back, without time to plan the best response. She was terrible reacting under pressure. "What do you think you are doing!" she managed to yell, pointed at the now broken microphone. "That was my grandmother's pin! A family heirloom!" Ken rolled his eyes in impatience. "The game is *over*, lady. Let's begin talking seriously here. I need some answers." She slowly walked backwards towards the door. "You are nuts! I should never had come here! I'm leaving." The man decisively walked towards her. "Stop! I said we need to talk!" A short, Mexican looking young man appeared and stood in the front door, between the girl and Ken. He was pointing a gun directly at her. "You are not going anywhere!" PART 8: "Michelle!" It was Heather on the other side of the line. "I lost the contact with Mileni. She was leaving the place when the connection was suddenly lost." Sarah was jumping behind Michelle, too anxious to hear what the youngest Angel was saying. "Ask her how the interview was!" "Relax Sarah, she's not running away!" and to the phone: "Sarah here is asking about the interview. Did you hear everything?" "Every word" Heather answered proudly. Playing detective and being trusted by her fellow Angels made her feel special. She felt so mature! "It sounded like an average job interview, I don't think there's anything up there. The guy's voice could be Ken's, but I don't remember it clearly anymore." "What is she saying?" Sarah approached the phone on tiptoes, trying to hear something. "She basically said that we're probably walking in the wrong direction." Michelle said. "She doesn't think that's our Ken." "What do I do about Mileni?" Heather asked. "Shall I go there and see if she's OK?" "If you think everything is fine, I don't see why" Michelle decided. "Let's wait a little while; if she doesn't call then we'll all go after her." ********************************************************************************\ * BACK AT THE LABORATORY: Mileni was paralyzed, staring at the gun pointed at her chest. "Jesus, Marco!" Ken exclaimed in alarm. He walked toward the short man with an opened hand. "Give me that gun." Marco didn't hesitate to the command. He carefully offered Ken the weapon, while hearing "And don't you ever point that at someone again!" "Sorry boss, but she was trying to go away!" He breathed deeply, placing the gun at his waist. "Lady, please forgive my assistant. He didn't mean anything bad, believe it or not." "Who are you people?" Mileni was confused and scared. "You are a drug manufacturer, aren't you? You do something illegal and that's why I can't leave - because I found you?" Ken knew he had to explain himself - but it wasn't easy. "Look - we are not bad people. You're safe. We have a reason to Please, come inside with me, we need to talk." "Just say it here and I'm leaving!" She nearly yelled. "I'm not going anywhere with you!" "It's a long story, we can't talk at the door!" The girl thought for a moment. "Why don't you start your 'long story' by telling me where Kane is?" Ken was genuinely surprised. "Kane? So is that why you're here?" He studied her. "Are you his girlfriend?" "No - I'm his Angel." At his interrogative expression, she added "Never mind. Look - all I want is to make sure Kane is safe. I know you kidnapped him, don't deny it. Just tell me where to find him and I *promise* not to tell anybody about your little drug business." He ignored her last comment. "Kane is safe, don't worry about him. Now, if you just come and listen to me for ten minutes, I'll let you see him." She opened her eyes wide. "See him? You mean - is he in here?" "Yes, Kane is in this building. Please" He was gently trying to pull her by the arm to get her to his office, but she was resisting. "I want to see him now!" She got rid of his hold and began walking inside screaming his name. "Kane? Kane, where are you?" The large man was following her. "Would you stop please? I'll lead you to him, but can we talk first?" She was decideding. "No! I want Kane now!" He breathed deeply, conceding. "OK. As you wish. But you won't like what you'll see." PART 9 Mileni's eyes grew wide. She unconsciously slinked back against the massive chest of Ken who was standing behind her. Ken gently grabbed her upper arms in his hands and pushed her towards the bars. Not wanting to but yet wanting to, Mileni's feet reluctantly took one step at a time until she could reach out and grasp the cold metal in her hands. She couldn't believe what she was seeing. Ken was right. She wanted to rip open the door and rescue the poor creature sitting in the corner, his bare back up against the cold concrete wall. His head tilted downwards so that his chin rested upon his bare back. "No will you let me explain?" Ken grabbed her hands in his, peeling her fingers away from the bars. She nodded her head, trying to choke back the tears that filled her eyes. "Have you heard about the recent killings in LA?" She nodded her head, her mind still on the silent and still form she had seen a few minutes ago. "Well he's responsible." "kane?" Mileni couldn't believe her ears, Kane wouldn't hurt a fly let alone another human being. "A few months ago, Kane took a trip over seas to England for a convention." Mileni nodded, she remembered him talking about it. And how he seemed _different_ when he had returned. "Well there he ran into, ah...some trouble." ken cleared his throat trying to figure how to continue. "Late one night out on a moor, he was attacked." Mileni gasped, he never had mentioned that before. ken continued. "he was injured and taken to a local hospital but oddly enough, he recovered quite easily. About a month later though, locals brought in an animal they had killed, half man half wolf." "You mean a werewolf?" Mileni had heard the stories but never really believed them. "Fraid so. SAd thing is though, this creatures last attempted meal was your buddy Kane. Which means..." Mileni stared at the tall man in front of her, his words making sense but she refused to believe what she knew had to be true. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ One hour later she called her friends. "Ladies! I just got a phone call from Brazil. My uncle is really sick. I'm going to take the next airplane and I don't know when I'll be back." *Sorry Angels* she thought, feeling guilty. *I hate lying to you, but the least people involved, the better, for Kane's sake.* " I guess I'm going to camp here for a while. We have a lot of work to do." PART 10: His green eyes stared out through the bars of his cage. He didn't understand why he was here, let alone why he was being _held_ like this. He looked down at his hands in his lap. Metal restraints held fast to his wrists, tying them to each other by a thick chain running between the two. His ankles were the same. He was dressed only in a pair of blue jeans, no shirt upon his back, no shoes or shocks on his feet. He shivered slightly against the cold chill that filled the small jail like cell. The concrete walls didn't help much either. He raised his head back up. He hadn't seen anyone in quiet awhile since the young woman, whom he thought was familiar but he didn't quite know who she was, and the tall man had paid him a visit. There was a milk jug full of what used to be cold water by one corner of the cell. Other than that, it was empty. He suddenly felt restless. Standing up, he began to pace back and forth. His bare feet whispering softly against the cement as the chains clinked against each other. His footsteps got faster and faster until he was at an almost jog, circling the tight enclosure much like the caged animal he was. His body broke out in a sweat despite the cold chill that filled the air. He was almost frantic in his actions. His mind and body unable to remain still. His eyes darted back and forth not seeing what each tried to focus upon. Suddenly he stopped and collapsed to his knees. A vicious heat roared through his body. Everything around him seemed to irritate him. He tilted his head upwards focusing upon the wire mesh that housed a bare, lit bulb. A roar that was not quite human erupted from his throat as he leaped to his feet slashing out at the wire with fingernails that were beyond normal length. The bulb exploded as it was crashed beneath a great force, sending the small cell into darkness. A soft thump filled the still air. Two yellow spots suddenly appeared in the darkness, surround by a mass that was still slightly darker. The form blinked. A small beam of light coming in from a high sky light glistened off the dark mass of fur along the huge muscled back of the creature that now stood, crouched in the center of the cell. Saliva dripped from it's bared teeth, a low growl rumbling from deep within it's throat. Those evil yellow orbits fastened upon the large full moon above as it opened it's jaws and let out a long eerie sound that sent chills through any living thing with in ear shot. PART 11: A FEW DAYS LATER: The improvised researchers were sat on the study room, each on his favorite spot. Piles of books were spread on the big table - from the latest science technology and medicine to folklore and werewolves stories. Mileni, sat with her legs crossed on the floor, below the main bookshelf, rose her head from a huge volume of Cell Biology. "Hey guys who's cooking tonight?" Nobody even looked back. "Hello-o? Don't pretend you didn't hear me!" "Tonight's your turn, Mileni" was Marco's observation. "I cooked yesterday and the day before." She stared at him, annoyed, and pointed to herself. "How many people do you see here?" As he didn't answer, she continued: "Just one! I can't split myself in half and do two, three things at the same time!" She immediately regretted her words. "I'm sorry Marco. I didn't mean to put it all on you. I'm just tired In twenty minutes I have to go back to the lab and finish some analysis, and I'll probably not finish it before midnight. Please don't mind my bad mood." "No problem girl" he assured, smiling. "We are all stressed out. Besides, I guess we are going to have some Canadian food tonight" he added as an indirect suggestion to Ken. He apparently was alienated from the whole conversation, too concentrated in some website he was researching on his laptop. Mileni walked toward him and read aloud, over his shoulder: "All You Wanted to Know About Werewolves - And Was Afraid To Ask". She ran her fingers on his hair, on an affectionate gesture. "Hey 'boss'. Are you OK?" Ken was still distracted. "Ah? Yes. Sure." "Would you listen to me for a minute?" She waited patiently until he finished reading something and turned to her. "What is it?" "Ken, we seriously need some help here. We're all overworked. It's endless research in the lab, tons of books to read, knowledge to gather, plus all the daily 'human' things like cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, organizing the mess not to mention dealing with a furious Kane. What do you think?" "Well what do you want me to do?" "Let me bring an additional person here. It's a friend of mine that" Ken rose from his seat, alarmed, suddenly awake from his own world. "Did you mention about our 'study' to anyone?" "Of course not." She was happy for at least catching his attention. "But" He interrupted her, obviously distressed. "But nothing. Don't even think of bringing someone here. You know the reasons, Mileni. If a word gets out of here, if anyone finds out, it would be over. We would probably go to jail, Kane would be released and more innocent people would die. Is that what you want?" Having that huge man in distress standing in front of her was a scary thing, even that being Ken. "Sit down, 'boss', please. Oh, much better." She looked into his eyes, trying to transmit calm and confidence. "I know a person in who we can trust. She loves Kane unconditionally and would never do anything to harm him. I'm sure she would be more happy to 'camp' here with us until we're done." Ken was inflexible. "No way! It won't happen." Mileni ignored his comment. "Kane hates me now - I told you that he doesn't even let me come close to feed him! He scares me away with angry growlings and cursing. But this girl wouldn't mind it. She's not scared that easily. She could be the main person to deal with Kane. I'm sure she would sweeten his temper a lot." He wasn't convinced. "Too bad for him if he doesn't want to eat. Can't force him." "Talking about it I bet he is really hungry now." She was trying to make her so-called boss feel guilty. "Shame on you! You keep that poor man all chained and helpless, and won't even feed him right because there's nobody to cook in this place!" It worked, assuming his expression. "Besides" she continued in a more humorous tone, "it's never a good idea to starve a werewolf!" He didn't laugh. The girl continued, seriously: "This friend of mine must be a great cook, since she works in a restaurant. And she could help me in the lab too, there's so much to do in there!" Ken looked annoyed, but defeated. "Who's this girl?" Mileni smiled, knowing she won the battle. "Her name is Michelle. From your land!" CHAPTER 12: Michelle suddenly stood up and walked outside. Heather glanced over at Sarah who just shrugged her shoulders, raising her hands to the ceiling as if to say "beats me." "Guess she just needs some fresh air." Heather mumbled partially to ease her mind at the sudden disappearance of the oldest Angel. Michelle walked out the back door and glanced around the large fenced yard. She raised her head watching the clear blue sky above her. A vision had formed in her head a few moments ago causing her to leave suddenly for the vision was quite disturbing. She never really considered herself a true psychic but yet at times she could almost 'sense' things. This time it was Kane, he was hurt or angry. Either way he was mad and confused. The vision had filled her mind so suddenly it seemed as if he had been calling out to her. She feared he was in great danger and needed her help more even so than he or the others thought. She rubbed her tired eyes with the heels of her hands and stepped back through the sliding glass doors. An obnoxious ringing filled the vast house. "Would someone answer the phone!" Irritated with the ring, remembrances of an old job, SArah shook her head and stared back at the desk and plopped down on the floor, frustrated. Suddenly the ringing stopped. Michelle's jubilant voice filled the silence as spoke into her cell phone. Her words became more urgent. Curious, Sarah and Heather picked themselves up off the floor where they were sitting and snuck over to the doorway where Michelle was anxiously pacing back and forth. Noticing the two younger girls watching her, she turned her back and mumbled something into the phone before hanging up. "Angels, I have some bad news." Heather and Sarah shared a curious glance before focusing back on the girl in front of them. Michelle ran a hand through her hair and sighed deeply. "Something's come up...in...ah...Canada." SHe paused searching for the right words. "An emergency of sorts...at the restaurant...I gotta make a living you know...and...well I just have to leave...now." Michelle's hesitancy was obvious in her words. SArah and Heather shared another shocked glance. Another Angel was leaving? "But what about Mileni." Heather piped up still in shock that Michelle would drop everything and leave. "What about Kane." Sarah couldn't believe that she would just leave everything behind when their most important person was still missing. "It's...really....well I just have to go." Michelle couldn't figure out how to explain her self any further without giving anything away. Instead she turned and headed out the door. "Don't try to phone, I'll call you guys later." Heather and Sarah's jaws hit the floor. Now the investigation was up to them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Michelle shoved her foot down harder on the gas peddle of the Camaro. She felt bad for having to leave the remaining two girls alone to work on the investigation but she knew Mileni needed her help as well. During their brief phone conversation, Mileni had stated that she needed her help, she had to talk to her and wanted her to come alone. And not to tell the other's where she was going. She hoped her excuse about the restaurant would hold, she knew the others understood what she had been going through there and at home the past few weeks and that she had been through alot. She sped up even faster, anxious to get to the designated meeting place. She hoped her little fib would stick. Mileni stood on the corner, impatiently shifting from foot to foot. The deep drown of the Camaro's engine alerted her to Michelle's arrival. Michelle rushed out of the vehicle without even stopping to turn the engine off and gave her fellow Angel a hug. "I was so worried about you." Mileni smiled. "It's not me you have to worry about." Suddenly the vision from before popped up in Michelle's mind. "Kane." Mileni nodded. "What's going on? All of us were worried about you." "Mileni turned towards her own parked car. "Come with me." The climbed into the vehicle and took off towards the far end of the town. The quiet, unoccupied end of town. She pulled into a garage type place on the side of a large building. The doors closed behind them as Ken opened the passenger door. Michelle was surprised to see Ken there, but suddenly her emotions took over and she became angry. "Where's Kane." Ken smiled at her reaction to seeing him. "I see you were right, she does seem very protective. Now I understand your warnings." Michelle, confused, glanced between Mileni who was now standing beside her and Ken in front of her. "What's going on? Where's Kane?" Ken turned around beckoning the two young women to follow him. "We need your help, Michelle, Kane...well basically we need you to sort of nurse him, take care of him, feeding etc." "Is he here?" She reached for Ken's arm causing him to stop walking. They both nod. "I want to see him." Michelle stood her ground folding her arms across her chest stubbornly. "I demand to see my Teddy Bear." Ken smiled at the affectionate nickname. But soon the smiled faded. "As you wish, but you wont like it. Kane you see isn't quite himself at the moment." "What do you mean?" Mileni stepped in. "Something's happened to him, dreadfully I must say. he's not the Kane we know and love. He's different, changed." Ken nodded in agreement. "But I will take you to see him if you wish." The arrived in the darkened room a few moments later. Michelle was shocked at the sight of Kane. She wanted to get him out of there. But she knew deep down that he probably didn't even see her standing there. His eyes staring angrily at her as she approached the bars, his teeth baring in an evil snarl. But something flashed across his eyes, almost recognition then he lunged at the bars, the chains yanking him back again. She screamed out at him half in fear half in anger. She knew he had to have known who she was by that brief look. Ken grabbed her arms as she struggled to get free. His strength was much greater and he easily pulled her away from the cell and out of the room. Mileni closed the doors, securing them tightly. Michelle yanked her arms free from Ken's grasp and ran back down the corridor and out into the garage, tears streaming down her face. Mileni glanced over at Ken's face, she hoped she hadn't been wrong in asking Michelle to help out. She herself knew who the first look at their beloved Kane was more than they could take. But Michelle was a strong one and she knew that once she took a few moments, she would come around and be more than helpful with Kane. CHAPTER 13: He crouched alone in the corner. His piercing green eyes watching the events unfolding in front
of him. He noticed a slight weakness in the new person that the other two had brought in.He shifted his weight to his left
foot, watching closely, an idea forming in his head. He knew that the new girl knew him and seemed close to him. She was a
strong one but yet with her love for him, she seemed weak, a weakness that he could use against her.A crooked smile began
forming on his chapped lips. The woman took off crying to another room. A few minutes later the other two left the room as
well.He stood to his full 6'4" height, steadying himself on his bare, strong feet. His stomach growled with hunger, but his
stubbornness, he refused anything they had attempted to give him.He had to get out. He closed his mind, focusing on one thing.
The woman in the other room.A soft patter of shoes upon the cement filled the silence of the room. Still he kept his eyes
closed and his mind focused. His breathing remained even.A slight jingle of metal, then a scraping noise like metal against
metal. He finally opened his eyes. The woman stood before him. Inside the cage.He shifted his gaze ever so slightly behind
her, the door was standing wide open.He focused back on her. His eyes suddenly filled with sadness, pleading with her. he
raised his hand, beckoning her to come forward.Tears filled her eyes as she took a step forward. She was hesitant but yet
she kept moving forward. She wanted to help him so badly but didn't quite know how.She stopped directly in front of him. Her
eyes looking upwards into his. He reached for her face, gently dragging his hand down her cheek. Waiting. She closed her eyes.He
reacted. Before she could realize what had happened, he had her turned around and his massive arm wrapped around her neck in
a choke hold. She let out a cry but his other hand clamped down on her mouth."Don't say a word." His voice hissed into her
ear, his lips so close to her.He pushed her forward with his weight, forcing her to move towards the open door. She struggle
against him, but his size and strength held her tightly in his grasp.Once past the doorway of the cage, he whirled her around.
His eyes once more filling with sadness."I'm so sorry Michelle." He reached for her once more, grazing her cheek. Then he was
gone.
